Kanubari, Mar 27: In a major initiative to boost agricultural development and empower local farmers, Gabriel D. Wangsu, Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Fisheries, Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs and Food & Civil Supply, formally launched the Kanubari Agro-Spices Producers Company Limited (KASP) at Kanubari and distributed ginger and King Chilli saplings to over 500 farmers across 19 villages.
The launch event, held at the Additional Deputy Commissioner’s Office, was organised by Sheel Biotech in collaboration with the District Agriculture Department, Longding. The program is part of a broader effort to provide structured support to farmers and promote sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
Speaking at the event, Minister Wangsu underscored the importance of responsible farming and urged for strong coordination between farmers and the newly formed Farmer Producer Company (FPC). He cautioned against any misuse of government schemes and assured the gathering of his personal commitment to monitoring the progress of beneficiary farmers.
"This initiative is a significant step toward fulfilling the Spices Mission, a vision we have introduced to transform Kanubari into a model region for organic spice production to the socio-economic status of our farmers and communities," Wangsu said.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting organic cultivation under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCD-NER), aiming to produce market-ready, high-quality spices while enhancing income opportunities for local farmers.
As part of the program, Wangsu also flagged off over 16 metric tones of ginger saplings which will be distributed among the farmers across 25 villages, organised into Farmers Interest Groups (FIGs), of Kanubari subdivision under the MOVCD scheme.
The launch was attended by key officials including the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kanubari, District Agricultural Officer of Longding, State Coordinator of MOVCD (Arunachal Pradesh) and scientists from KVK Kanubari.
This initiative signals a new era of agro-based development in the region, with a focus on self-reliance, organic practices and inclusive growth.
