Nirjuli, Mar 27: Gabriel D. Wangsu, Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary etc., graced the valedictory ceremony of the "Catch Them Young" skill training program on pig husbandry at the Conference Hall, Directorate of AHV&DD, Nirjuli. The program, organised by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary & Dairy Development, aimed to empower educated unemployed youths and farmers through comprehensive livestock and poultry husbandry training for self-employment.
The first batch of 30 trainees have completed their intensive training program from February 13 to March 26, specialising in pig husbandry, at the Don Bosco Centre, Dobam Village, Karsingsha. Minister Wangsu actively engaged with the trainees, personally evaluating their training effectiveness and assessment. The trainees shared their experiences and ideas, which the minister listened to attentively, assuring them of possible amendments and support. He urged them to further convey their experiences with other farmers to encourage them. 
Addressing the gathering, Wangsu expressed his concern regarding wrong selection of beneficiaries and emphasised the need for an unbiased and transparent process in selecting beneficiaries for such crucial programs. He also highlighted the importance of bio-security in livestock farming, urging the trainees to adopt best practices to prevent disease outbreaks and ensure sustainable production.
Furthermore, the Minister encouraged the trainees to transition from traditional farming to commercial farming, emphasizing its potential for economic growth and self-sufficiency. "Commercial farming is the way forward," he stated, "and it is essential for the economic empowerment of our youth." He expressed his excitement to see their progress in their endeavours.
The pig husbandry batch benefitted from the expertise of various resource persons, including Veterinary Officers from VTI Pasighat, Dr. Jikom Panor (Rtd. DVO), Shri Manoj Basumatary (“Pigman” of Tezpur, Assam), officers from the Central Pig Breeding Farm, Karsingsha and KVK, Karsingsha. To provide practical exposure, the trainees participated in exposure tours to the Mithun Mela in Dem, Keyi Panyor, Oomkar Farming Hub in Narayanpur, Assam and NRC-Pig in Rani, Assam.
The successful completion of this first batch marks a significant step towards empowering the youth of Arunachal Pradesh and fostering sustainable livestock farming practices in the state. The Minister assured continued support from the government to ensure the successful implementation of the program and its positive impact on the beneficiaries.
The valedictory function was attended by Hage Tari (IOFS) Secretary (AHV), Dr. Danjan Longri, Director (AHV & DD), Dr. Taba Heli, JD (CLF), Dr. Karbom Basar, JD (AH), Dr. Talo Taggu, JD (AH), Dr. Nyokar Taipodia, DD (Plg), Dr. Joymoti Ratan, DD (Est) along with other Senior Officers of the Department 
The "Catch Them Young" program aims to train youths and farmers from across the state in different trades, including pig husbandry, poultry husbandry, goat/sheep husbandry & dairying and other agricultural sectors.
