Wakro, Apr 3: The family of late Capt. (retd.) KK Venkatraman, a founder-patron of the Lohit Youth library movement and an early pioneer of VKVs in Arunachal, has announced the First Capt. KK Venkatraman Memorial Fellowship to Ms Ashapmai Dellang, the leading member of the Wakro Sisters, who will be the first Arunachali youth to qualify as a professional student of Carnatic Music in June this year.
The fellowship of Rs. 40,000/- this year is to enable her to pursue advanced studies in Carnatic music at any institution, University, or under a recognised Guru during 2025-26. The Award certificate will be presented to her by the family on the first Anniversary of late Capt. Venkatraman (widely known as ‘Capt. Ji’ in Arunachal ) on May 27, 2025 and the award amount, on her confirming her admission to the selected course of studies.
Communicating this on behalf of the family, Capt. ji’s brother Ramasubramanian, in a letter to the Coordinator, Lohit Youth Library Network, said: “ Our brother late Capt. Venkatraman was, till his last day, giving strong publicity among his senior Army and other contacts, to every achievement of the Wakro Sisters, as he was specially concerned from his VKV days, about the educational advancement of rural first generation Arunachali girls. Due to his deep interest in the educational and professional advancement of Arunachali youth, he was, from the inception, a founder-patron of the Lohit youth library movement.
Director, Dept of Indigenous Affairs, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, Sokhep Kri, who is also the Convenor of Lohit Youth Libraries, has congratulated Ashapmai for this unique honour and has conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the family of late Capt. Venkatraman ji for such generous patronage of Arunachali youth.
