CHONGKHAM, Jan 31: In a significant move to curb illegal drug activities, Namsai District Police apprehended two individuals for their alleged involvement in illegal poppy cultivation. The arrests were carried out under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, underscoring the authorities' unwavering commitment to combating drug-related crimes.
The accused have been identified as Vijay Ranjan Chakma @ Bijoy Chakma, a 30-year-old resident of Bijoypur Village, and Subha Ranjan Chakma, a 39-year-old resident of Modakka Nala, Diyun, both located in Changlang District. The case has been registered under Chongkham Police station case No. 01/25 U/S 18(C) NDPS Act, which deals with offenses related to the cultivation and production of narcotic substances. If convicted, the accused could face severe legal consequences, including imprisonment.
The Namsai District Police have issued a stern warning to those involved in illegal poppy cultivation, emphasizing that such activities will not be tolerated. The police have vowed to take strict action against offenders, including arrest, prosecution, and punishment under the NDPS Act.
