ITANAGAR, Apr 30:  The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Wednesday organized a massive rally in Itanagar under the nationwide 'Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan' (Save the Constitution Campaign), calling attention to what it termed as "systematic attacks" on India’s constitutional values by the BJP-led central government.
The protest march began from Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan and culminated at the Tennis Court in I.G. Park, drawing participation from hundreds of Congress workers, youth volunteers, and senior party leaders. Participants held up banners and placards reading “Save Constitution, Save India”,  “Protect Democracy” and “Stand for Justice”.
Addressing the crowd, APCC President and former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki lashed out at the Modi government, alleging a deliberate attempt to dismantle the pillars of democracy.
"The Constitution is under siege; Institutions meant to uphold democracy are being manipulated to serve political ends. The voice of the opposition is being throttled, and federalism is being undermined," Tuki said, speaking to the media at the sidelines of the rally.
He further accused the Centre of misusing investigative agencies to target political opponents and suppressing dissent through fabricated legal cases. “We are not just fighting for political survival; we are fighting to preserve the soul of our Republic,” said Tuki, urging citizens, especially the youth, to stand up against authoritarianism and defend constitutional ideals.
The rally is part of the Indian National Congress’ broader national campaign aimed at sensitizing citizens about the alleged erosion of democratic values and the weakening of constitutional safeguards under the current regime. Similar protests are being held across the country in the lead-up to the general elections.
Congress leaders in Arunachal also highlighted concerns over the diminishing autonomy of constitutional bodies, curtailment of media freedom, and the bypassing of parliamentary procedures.
