Itanagar, Apr 16: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Arunachal Pradesh, condemned the Congress party for staging protests and dharnas across various parts of the country in response to the developments in the National Herald case.
Addressing the media at the BJP State Headquarters in Itanagar, MLA cum BJP spokesperson Topin Ete, flanked by State General Secretary  Tadar Niglar and Media In-charge  Dolang Tako, called out the Congress party for attempting to mislead the public and politicise a long-standing legal matter.
Ete emphasised that the National Herald case is the result of a legal process initiated more than a decade ago. He stated that the case is based on a complaint filed by Dr. Subramanian Swamy in 2012 and has withstood rigorous judicial scrutiny.
Both the Delhi High Court and the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India refused to quash  and dismissed their petitions and allowed ED to proceeding on the matter. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) commenced its investigation in 2021, and on April 15, 2025, it filed a chargesheet under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
“The facts are clear and substantiated by evidence collected over a decade-long investigation. The case is not politically motivated, as alleged by Congress, but rather a judicially sanctioned inquiry into serious allegations of financial fraud and misuse of public assets,”  Ete stated.
According to the chargesheet, a criminal conspiracy was to misappropriate properties worth over `2,000 crore belonging to Associated Journals Ltd. (AJL), which were originally intended for public interest and media operations. In 2011, these assets were transferred to Young Indian Pvt. Ltd., a private company incorporated in 2010 by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, who together hold a 76% stake in the company. The transfer was made for a nominal payment of `50 lakh.
Further explaining the alleged fraud,  Ete stated that AJL had earlier received loans from the Indian National Congress, and it was claimed that Young Indian would repay the loan. However, the Congress party subsequently waived off the entire loan, effectively transferring ownership of AJL and its assets—through the issuance of 9 crore shares valued at `10 each—to Young Indian for free. “This is a case of financial impropriety, where public assets have been diverted for private gain,” he remarked.
The BJP has no role in this case. It is a matter of law and justice. The ED is acting in accordance with court orders, and we have full faith in the independence and professionalism of our judicial and investigative institutions,” he said, firmly rejecting the Congress party's allegations of political vendetta. Ete further condemned the Congress party’s protests as a diversionary tactic aimed at evading accountability. “It is deeply concerning that leaders who once held the highest offices in the country are now being called to answer for such grave charges in court. No individual, regardless of position or political lineage, is above the law,” he added.
He also criticized the Congress party for trying to mislead the people of the country by labeling a legitimate legal matter as politically driven. The investigation into the National Herald case was not initiated by this government but began under judicial directions before the BJP even came to power. Congress is trying to deflect attention from corruption by staging protests. The people of India can see through these tactics,” he said.
