Rono Hills, Mar 20: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), has brought laurels by securing the First Prize in the poster competition on “Best Practices on Protection, Preservation and Promotion of Indigenous Culture” during the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) East Zone Vice Chancellors’ Conference 2024-25 held at JIS University, Kolkata, from March 18-19.
The Vice-Chancellor (Acting) of RGU Prof. S.K. Nayak who attended the conference congratulated the entire RGU fraternity, and expressed pride in the institution’s unwavering commitment to preserving indigenous culture and fostering holistic education. The award recognizes RGU’s outstanding commitment to safeguarding and promoting indigenous culture, practices, and endangered languages through its Centre for Endangered Languages (CFEL) under RGU’s Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies (AITS). The implementation process involved documentation, preservation of local dialects, publication of scripts, and the development of cultural resources such as documentaries and books. The outcomes included contributions to the State Culture Policy and State Youth Policy, as well as the creation of multimedia resources that highlight the rich heritage of Arunachal Pradesh.
Commending the dedicated efforts of Team RGU, Dr. N.T. Rikam, the Registrar of the University, stated that the recognition is a testimony to the university’s unwavering commitment to promoting academic excellence and preserving cultural heritage. 
The Finance Officer, RGU Prof. Otem Padung, stressing on the university’s proactive approach, emphasized that the Transparency Audit ensures transparency and accountability in academic, administrative, and financial processes through suo-moto disclosure of information on the university website, followed by rigorous audits conducted by independent third-party reviewers.
Highlighting RGU’s sustained efforts, Dr. David Pertin, Joint Registrar, RGU, emphasized that the university’s accomplishments are deeply rooted in the visionary establishment of the Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies (AITS), which began as the Department of Tribal Studies in 1995 and was upgraded to an institute on November 22, 2005 and felt that RGU’s Commitment to Academic Excellence and Cultural Preservation have been deservingly recognized. Since its inception, AITS has been a pioneering force in promoting the cultural legacy and indigenous knowledge of Arunachal Pradesh through cutting-edge academic research.
