NAHARLAGUN, Apr 16: In a commendable display of swift action and effective interstate coordination, the Papu Hills Police successfully recovered a stolen pickup vehicle and apprehended the accused from Kohima, Nagaland, just days after the vehicle was reported missing.
The vehicle, which had been stolen from the parking area of Tata Motors at Papunallah, was reported to the Papu Hills Police Station on April 15. Responding immediately, Inspector Torum Mai, Officer-in-Charge of Papu Hills PS, initiated an investigation into the theft.
The stolen vehicle was soon traced to Nagaon, Assam, prompting a police team—led by SI A.K. Jha, and including ASI D. Gurung and Constable Papu Halder—to proceed to the location under the supervision of SP Naharlagun Mihin Gambo and SDPO Naharlagun Rishi Longdo.
Upon arrival, however, the accused had already fled the scene, taking the stolen vehicle towards Nagaland. Demonstrating proactive and efficient coordination, SI A.K. Jha maintained real-time communication with the Nagaland Police, which led to the successful interception and apprehension of the accused at Kohima.
The accused was identified as Habijul Ali (34), a resident of Islampur Bechapatty, North Lakhimpur, Assam. He was
promptly taken into custody and brought back to Papu Hills Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The operation highlighted the importance of seamless inter-state police collaboration. The timely recovery of the vehicle and arrest of the accused was made possible through the combined efforts of the Arunachal Pradesh Police and Nagaland Police.
