Itanagar, Mar 5: Rules for APFRA 1978 will be framed after proper discussion with all religious groups and legislators, said Government Spokesperson & Minister PD Sona. Sona who is also holding the portfolio of Minister for Parliamentary Affairs has confirmed that the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act (APFRA), 1978, will not be tabled for discussion in the upcoming session of the Eighth Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, scheduled from March 6 to 12.
The announcement comes amid growing debates and protests over the Act's implementation, with various groups demanding either its enforcement or repeal. Addressing public speculation, Sona clarified that APFRA is not on the legislative agenda and that any necessary action regarding the Act would be handled at the government level rather than through the Assembly.
"APFRA has nothing to do with the legislative assembly at this stage, and any necessary action will be taken at the government level," Sona stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to welfare and ongoing consultations with all stakeholders.
There is some misconception amongst the denizens, APFRA is already passed in Assembly; Government has to only frame rules, that to after clear order from High Court, added Sona. He clarified that, rules for the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 1978, will be framed only after proper discussion with various religious groups, all MLAs and also by constituting a committee.
