ITANAGAR, May 4: The Arunachal ST Bachao Andolan Committee (ASBAC) has lauded the state administration’s recent decision to suspend weekly markets across the Itanagar Capital Region and to frame strong rules to avoid any illegal entry that violates existing Inner Line Permit (ILP) norms.
Addressing a press conference, ASBAC Chairman Taw Poul emphasized the need for exclusive operation of weekly markets by local youths, women and men. The committee has demanded a complete ban on outsider’s  participation in these markets to ensure that all economic benefits remain within the state’s population. He stated that this move is essential to boost indigenous economic activities and promote self-reliance within local communities.
The committee further urged the state government to implement a robust and technologically advanced Inner Line Permit (ILP) verification system. According to ASBAC, such a system is crucial to detect and eliminate fake ILPs, thereby protecting the state’s demographic integrity and security. The organization also recommended that proper registers be maintained at all state entry and exit points to monitor the movement of outsiders.
ASBAC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the interests of the indigenous Scheduled Tribes of Arunachal Pradesh and called for proactive governance and public cooperation to uphold the state’s cultural and economic sovereignty.
The organization has strongly appealed to the people of Arunachal Pradesh to extend their cooperation to the government, led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Home & Border Affairs Minister Mama Natung, in efforts aimed at state development and public welfare.
