PASIGHAT, Feb 10: The first ever GB customary court seminar of East Siang District was held at Gidii Notko, Pasighat. The seminar, attended by over 90 participants from East Siang, Siang, and Lower Dibang Valley districts, aimed to promote the importance of customary law and justice in the region.
Representatives from 10 blocks across the district participated in the seminar, including, Mongu, Mebo, Silke-Oyan, Ruksin, Bosing, Legong, Dambuk, Roing, Rumgong, Bogong.
Attending the programme, Tayi Taggu, Deputy Commissioner of East Siang, emphasised the importance of timely justice, quoting "justice delayed is justice denied."
Meanwhile, Adv. Okom Tamuk highlighted the significance of customary law and its relationship with the Gaon Burah system, stressing that local dialects are endangered and must be preserved.
While the interaction with the Organizing Chairman of the seminar Dr. Taken Taggu, he spoke about the 1945 Act, highlighting its relevance to the customary laws and practices of the region.
Further, the seminar motto, "Progress with the law and enlightening the society," reflects the organisers commitment to promoting justice, equality, and social enlightenment. The success of this seminar marks a significant step towards promoting customary law and justice in East Siang District.
