ITANAGAR, Mar 28: The All-Arunachal Contractor’s Welfare Association (AACWA) has expressed serious concerns over reports of corrupt practices within the Education Department, where some executing agencies and officials are allegedly demanding 2.5% to 5% upfront payments from contractors for work orders. Additionally, there are claims that certain officers demand 10-20% commissions in supply works under the department.
AACWA, an apex body representing the state’s contractor fraternity, stated that such unethical demands could severely impact the quality and quantity of infrastructure development in government-run schools. The association emphasized that schools are sacred institutions dedicated to imparting knowledge and should not be affected by corrupt practices. They urged the authorities to take strict action to curb these unlawful activities.
In response to these alarming reports, the Education Department has issued a stern advisory prohibiting any unauthorized financial transactions related to projects funded by the department. Under Secretary (Education), Khumkon Mossang, clarified that no individual, agency, or department official has been authorized to demand or accept any form of financial incentives from contractors.
The advisory further instructed all contractors and firms engaged in Education Department projects to adhere strictly to the contractual terms and complete their projects without any external financial pressures. Any misconduct or undue favour should be immediately reported to the appropriate authorities for a thorough investigation and necessary action as per law.
