ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Chief Minister Pema Khandu has emphasised the need for concrete action against refugees in Arunachal Pradesh, stating that the time for merely raising slogans like “Refugee Go Back” is over.
Speaking at the Inter-Tribe Festival of AAPSU at IG Park on Saturday, CM Khandu reiterated the long-standing demand of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) regarding the Chakma-Hajong refugee issue. He acknowledged AAPSU’s persistent efforts on the matter and stressed that the issue must now be brought to a logical conclusion.
“This government is very clear—our state belongs to Scheduled Tribes, and there is no place for refugees like the Chakma-Hajong. I have personally communicated this to the Chakma-Hajong communities, making it clear that Arunachal Pradesh is the land of tribal people and refugees cannot stay here permanently,” CM Khandu asserted.
He further informed that the matter has already been discussed with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Additionally, he assured that the government, along with AAPSU representatives, would engage in thorough discussions in the coming days to resolve the issue in a logical conclusion.
