SHERGAON, Mar 31:  Chief Minister Pema Khandu, along with Home Minister Mama Natung, State BJP President Kaling Moyong, and MLAs Phurpa Tsering (Dirang), Tenzin Nyima Glow (Thrizino-Buragaon), and Tsetan Chombay (Kalaktang), jointly released at least 7,000 Schozothorax fish into Choskhorong-Kho river to boost indigenous fish population and promote conservation under River Ranching Programme here on Monday.
The initiative, led by the Department of Fisheries, West Kameng district, and supported by the National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad, aims to enhance fish stock, maintain biodiversity, and discourage harmful fishing practices. River ranching involves releasing fish into natural water bodies to support ecological balance and sustainable fisheries. 
Secretary Fisheries Hage Tari emphasized the importance of the program and announced plans to extend it to eleven more districts across Arunachal Pradesh. DFDO West Kameng, M.C. Adak, briefed attendees on government schemes related to fisheries development.
The river has been under the protection of Garung Thuk, an NGO dedicated to conservation since 2014. In recognition of its efforts, the river was awarded the title of "Best Water-Conserved Area" at the 2024 International Water Conclave in Meghalaya.
The event also saw the participation of West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Akriti Sagar, Siang Deputy Commissioner P.N. Thungon, SP West Siang, Garung Thuk Chairman Ledo Thungon, and other dignitaries.
