ITANAGAR, Feb 27: The Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) has reiterated its demand for the complete repeal of the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act (APFRA), 1978, and reaffirmed its decision to go ahead with a planned agitation on March 6 next.
Following a meeting with leaders from various Christian denominations in its head office at Naharlagun on Thursday. Speaking to the reporters , ACF President Tarh Miri stated that the forum remains firm on its single-point resolution—urging the state government to scrap the contentious Act entirely.
Responding to the query on permission denied by the district administration to hold protest, Secretary General James Techi Tara categorically stated ‘if the state government wants to use force we are ready to face any circumstances. However, our demands will remain the same, to scrap the APFRC-1978.’
Meanwhile, the Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) and it district units observed ‘Sadbhavna Pad Yatra’ in various districts uniting people from all walks of life in support of the Court's order to frame the rules for the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act 1978. IFCSAP is demanding framing of rules for the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act 1978, Protection of indigenous faith and cultural heritage and Preservation of traditional practices and faith.
Earlier, Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Home Minister Mama Natung who is also holding the department of Indigenous Affairs, categorically stated that the said Act is not going to harm any religion and it is the order of the Guwahati High Court to frame the rules for APFRA-1978.
