ITANAGAR, Feb 17: Former youth leader Byabang Joram, has issued a clarification regarding the recent incident involving him and Dr. Moji Jini, Director of Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS).
Speaking at a press conference, Joram strongly disproved allegations of extortion and physical intimidation, asserting that his actions were driven by frustration and not aimed at harming the doctor or his family.
Byabang Joram explained that he had approached Dr. Jini at his residence to discuss unresolved issues related to his land, which was allegedly acquired for the construction of TRIHMS. Despite multiple meetings with the construction agency, a group of doctors, and TRIHMS administration, Joram claimed that he was not provided the recognition he was promised. The TRIHMS authorities had assured him that his name would be included on the inauguration plaque as an acknowledgment for his land donation, but it was missing when the Chief Minister Pema Khandu, inaugurated the project.
“I never asked for anything other than having my name mentioned as a donor. Despite assurances, my name was excluded, and I had no option but to approach the director,” Joram said.
He further denied any communal connection in the incident and clarified that his actions were motivated by a sense of injustice. Joram claimed that the Itanagar district administration, the construction agency, and TRIHMS has carried out an illegal eviction of his land without prior notice.
“The eviction was carried out without informing me as the rightful landowner. How could I allow someone to take over my property illegally?” Joram questioned, emphasizing that the public deserved to be made aware of the issue. Moreover, even officials engaged with State Health Minister, Home Minister were also informed about the my grievances, he added.
Regarding his arrest following the incident, Joram expressed pain and frustration, stating that he had been wrongly accused of extortion and violence. "I was neither involved in any ransom demand nor physical assault on the doctor. While my entry into Dr. Jini’s house at 2 a.m. was inappropriate, it was an emotional outburst and nothing more," he said.
Joram also addressed claims of physical assault, stating that CCTV footage could prove his innocence. "I did not assault Dr. Jini or his family, nor did I demand any ransom. These claims are blatant misinformation, especially in the letter Dr. Jini addressed to the Chief Minister," he asserted.
Furthermore, Joram revealed that he had made several attempts to discuss the land issue and the assurance given by TRIHMS authorities with Dr. Jini but claimed that the director treated him dismissively. "I donated my land worth crores for public good, but instead of being acknowledged, I am portrayed as a villain," Byabang Joram lamented.
