BANDERDEWA, Feb 14: In a major success against interstate drug trafficking, Banderdewa Police apprehended four individuals, including a woman, in two separate operations. The operations, part of "Operation Dawn 2.0”, targeted a major narcotic distribution network resulting in the seizure of significant quantities of heroin.
On February 13 last, acting on credible intelligence regarding the transportation of narcotics, Banderdewa Police intercepted an interstate drug peddler, identified as Tahir Ali (29), a resident of Bihpuria, Assam. The police team, stationed at Karsingsa, stopped Ali’s vehicle and conducted a search. Hidden in the glove compartment, they recovered 10 vials containing heroin, weighing a total of 13.61 grams.
In a separate operation later that day, the Banderdewa Police, upon receiving specific intelligence, apprehended three more suspects from Niya Colony, Banderdewa. The arrested individuals were Faizul Islam (28), Faruk Ahmed Laskar (30), and Akhlima Begum (30), all from Assam. A body search led by SDPO Naharlagun Rishi Longdo, along with Inspector Tayem Jamoh from the Tax and Excise department, resulted in the recovery of two soap cases and 70 vials containing heroin, weighing a total of 115.62 grams.
Two separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been filed at Banderdewa Police Station, and the four individuals have been arrested. This marks a significant disruption of the interstate drug trafficking network operating in the region.
SP Naharlagun Mihin Gambo commended the efforts of the Banderdewa Police Team for their swift action and successful dismantling of the trafficking network. The investigation into the broader drug syndicate is ongoing, stated a release.
