Kharsingsa, Jan 29: Gabriel D. Wangsu, Arunachal Pradesh's Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, and other key portfolios, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the renovated Central Pig Breeding Farm at Kharsingsa following its recent rehabilitation and new pig induction program.
The minister also assessed the facility's newest additions of 20 high-quality pigs comprising Large White Yorkshire, Hampshire, and Landrace breeds. These animals were sourced last month from the renowned Symbiotic Pig Breeding Farm in Tezpur, Assam.
The Kharsingsa facility is currently undergoing a significant revitalization effort after losing its entire pig population to African Swine Fever last year. In response to this setback, the department is implementing robust measures to strengthen quarantine facilities and enhance biosecurity protocols.
During his inspection, Minister Wangsu emphasised the critical importance of proper feed management and stringent quarantine procedures for the newly arrived piglets. "Our focus is on rebuilding and expanding our breeding program with the highest standards of care and disease prevention," stated Wangsu.
The minister revealed that the department is actively working to introduce additional pig breeds from various institutes across the country to diversify and strengthen the genetic pool. This initiative aligns with the facility's ambitious plans to boost piglet production and meet the region's growing demand for quality breeding stock.
Wangsu also mentioned several promising collaborations initiated during his recent national tour last month, indicating potential partnerships that could further enhance the state's pig breeding program. (HS)
