Nagpur, Nov 25: State Agriculture minister Gabriel D. Wangsu attended the Agrovision 2024, a prestigious agricultural event held at the PDKV Ground in Nagpur in presence of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari today.
In his address, Wangsu spoke about the vital role of agriculture in India’s economy, which contributes around 17-18% to the GDP and supports the livelihoods of more than half the rural population. He drew attention to India’s position as the second-largest producer of fruits and vegetables and the immense scope for increasing agri-exports and expanding food processing industries.
Reflecting on Maharashtra’s well-developed horticulture sector, he acknowledged its success in farming, processing, and marketing as a valuable model for other states. He described Agrovision as a meaningful platform for exchanging knowledge and technologies, which aligns with the nation’s goal of doubling farmers’ income. He also praised Nagpur’s legacy as the “Orange City,” emphasizing its contribution to citrus production and the innovative research being carried out at the Central Citrus Research Institute.
Wangsu also invited attendees to experience Arunachal Pradesh’s unique charm and commended the organizers of Agrovision 2024 for creating an event that could provide valuable inputs to farmers and agricultural stakeholders.
“This is infact a no-mean achievement, a significant platform to promote innovative ideas and collaborations. I am confident the insights and technologies shared here will benefit the entire country,” he remarked.
“If Arunachal Pradesh and Maharashtra strive together in agricultural production, we can grow shoulder to shoulder, contributing to the nation’s progress. With commitment and mutual support, the synergy between Marathis and Arunachalies can yield significant outcomes in the days ahead,” the Minister concluded.
Minister Wangsu also toured various exhibition stalls at Agrovision, interacting with participants. A dedicated stall from Arunachal Pradesh also showcased the region’s kiwi products, offering a glimpse into the state’s growing agricultural diversity.
