Pasighat, Nov 27: “Our priority is to improve grassroots-level health facilities,” stated Health Minister Biyuram Waghe while addressing media queries during the Regional Review Meeting of the Health Department held here on Wednesday.
Acknowledging the challenges of inadequate manpower and infrastructure, especially in remote areas, Waghe emphasized that the meeting, which included Heads of Departments (HODs) from the Health Department, the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and other stakeholders from various districts, aimed to gather on-ground reports. “This exercise will help us identify gaps and implement necessary reforms to strengthen our health sector,” he added.
Responding to questions regarding the regularization of non-technical staff under the National Health Mission (NHM), Waghe informed that the government is working on phased modalities for their regularization. “We are aware that contractual workers cannot claim job regularization as per guidelines. However, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the state government is taking proactive steps to absorb these workers,” he assured.
On concerns about the scarcity of lecturers and basic facilities at the Government Nursing College in Pasighat, the Health Minister assured that the issue would be looked into for positive developments. “We are committed to addressing these challenges and improving the institution's infrastructure and staffing,” he stated.
The review meeting underscored the state government’s resolve to address existing shortcomings and ensure equitable healthcare delivery across Arunachal Pradesh, added the Minister.
