Itanagar, Nov 7: The State-Level Unique Identification Implementation Committee (UIDIC) meeting for 2024 was held in Itanagar on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, Manish Kumar Gupta.
The meeting saw participation from senior officials of the UIDAI, including Commodore Dhiraj Sareen, Deputy Director General of the UIDAI Regional Office in Guwahati, and Colonel Abhishek Koushik, Director of the UIDAI Guwahati office, alongside departmental heads of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
Ankur Garg, who is the Commissioner of the Economics & Statistics Department, inaugurated the meeting and shared valuable insights regarding Aadhaar enrolment activities in the state in achieving an upward trend in Aadhaar saturation.
On the occasion, Colonel Abhishek Koushik delivered a presentation detailing the progress of Aadhaar enrolment, updates, and usage in Arunachal Pradesh. He also presented an action-taken report based on points from the previous meeting and updates from the quarterly district-level meetings.
During the meeting, key issues discussed related to improving Aadhaar saturation, particularly focusing on enhancing the enrolment of children aged 0-5 years. To effectively roll out the Birth Registration Based Aadhaar Enrolment (BRBAE) process, the Chief Secretary directed the Department of Health & Family Welfare to integrate with the UIDAI Ecosystem. This process ensures that children are enrolled for Aadhaar shortly after birth registration.
Addressing the backlog of Mandatory Biometric updates (MBU) for children aged 5 to 7 years and 15 to 17 years, the Chief Secretary directed the Education Department to set up special camps at schools in coordination with the District Administrations to ensure that Mandatory Biometric updates are completed in a timely manner so that children can use their Aadhaar numbers to avail any government benefits in a hassle free manner.
During the meeting, Commodore Dhiraj Sareen, Deputy Director General of the UIDAI Regional Office in Guwahati stressed the need to accelerate the child enrolment process for children aged 0-5 years. He also suggested that Digital Birth Certificates are to be issued through Civil Registration System (CRS) of RGI to implement BRBAE in the state to streamline the process of issuing Aadhaar along with birth certificates to newborn babies. He proposed focusing on districts with lower Aadhaar saturation and emphasised the need to prioritise the enrolment of new borns using the BRBAE system.
Concluding the meeting, the Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between all departmental heads and the UIDAI Regional Office in Guwahati. He further stated the meeting had been very productive and directed all the departments to take prompt action on key issues which were discussed during the course of the meeting so that targets are met efficiently and within an established time frame.
