ITANAGAR, Nov 18: The Arunachal Pradesh Trade Union Federation (APTUF) on Monday began a phase-wise agitation demanding the immediate reinstatement of 75 man-day employees who were terminated from the Agriculture Department under the EARAS (Employee and Agriculture Reforms Assistance Scheme) programme.
Addressing reporters, Kenkar Yomcha, General Secretary of APTUF, stated that the federation has been compelled to launch the protest after repeated appeals to the department went unanswered. He alleged serious misconduct and negligence by certain officials within the Agriculture Department, accusing them of mishandling the matter and pushing the workers into undue hardship.
The first phase of the agitation began with a peaceful dharna at IG Park Tennis Court, Itanagar, where affected employees and union members gathered in solidarity, urging the state government to revoke the termination order and re-engage all 75 workers without delay.
APTUF has warned that the protest will intensify in the coming days if the government fails to act. The union announced a hunger strike beginning tomorrow, followed by an indefinite strike and a non-cooperation movement starting November 24.
“The phased agitation is our collective demand for justice,” APTUF GS said, adding that the government must intervene immediately to restore the livelihoods of the aggrieved workers.
APTUF reiterated its appeal to the state government to take urgent corrective measures and ensure fair treatment of the affected employees under the Agriculture Department.
