ITANAGAR, Dec 9: The All Arunachal Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers Association (AASSATA) has welcomed the state government's recent decision to regularize 214 contractual teachers working under the Integrated Scheme for School Education (ISSE), formerly known as SSA. However, the association has appealed for a one-time regularization policy to address the plight of the remaining 5,390 contractual teachers across the state.
Speaking to the media, AASSATA President Techi Bollo acknowledged the government's phased approach to regularizing ISSE teachers, which aims to absorb approximately 500 teachers each year. However, he expressed concern that, at this rate, it would take 40 to 50 years for all 5,000+ teachers to be regularized.
"We welcome the recent regularization of 214 ISSE teachers, but this step was conducted through the department's normal Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC), not as per the assurance given by Chief Minister Pema Khandu on September 5. The Chief Minister had committed to a yearly regularization process specifically for ISSE teachers," Bollo said.
He also highlighted that the latest regularization did not involve the creation of new posts and was part of the department’s 16th DPC. This approach, he argued, is inadequate to meet the long-standing demands of the teachers.
Bollo appealed to the government to implement a one-time regularization policy for all contractual ISSE teachers who have been serving the state for years, some since as early as 2007. He emphasized that many teachers have waited over a decade for their services to be regularized.
"If the government can take the initiative for one-time regularization, we, the AASSATA, are ready to dissolve our organization. Our sole purpose has always been to fight for the regularization of teachers," Bollo stated.
