ITANAGAR, Nov 24: Darjeeling’s Som Bahadur Thami emerged victorious in the 60k male category at the 4th edition of the Basar Running Ultimate Trail Experience (BRUTE), held in Basar, Leparada district on Saturday.
The trail running event, which has become a hallmark for adventure enthusiasts, saw Thami crowned champion, followed by Hemani Limbu in second place and Gore Lal in third.
The BRUTE 2024 also witnessed intense competition across multiple categories. In the 60k female division, Rutuja Malvadkar claimed the top spot, with Namgyal Lhamo and Shanti Rai securing second and third places, respectively.
In the 30k races, Nimsang Limbu clinched first place in the Male category, trailed by Bir Bahadur Rai and Harang Cheri. The female division saw Anuda Tamang emerge as the winner, followed by Lipi Kalita and Suk Lamu Sherpa.
The 10k event was equally thrilling, with Jayanta Das dominating the male category and Nedi Ngi taking the top honor in the female division. The 5k race saw Agalumro Tawsik finish first in the male category, with Prashant and Z T Sorang completing the podium.
Organized by Gumin Rego Kilaju, a local NGO, in collaboration with Run Monks and Race Time, the event drew an enthusiastic crowd of trail runners and spectators alike.
Held at the picturesque trails of Basar, the competition began with an inaugural ceremony at the SFS School ground, attended by sports minister Kento Jini, rural development minister Ojing Tashing and Basar MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi.
The BRUTE 2024 not only showcased athleticism and endurance but also highlighted the growing spirit of adventure sports in the region, cementing its status as a premier event for trail running in Arunachal.
