ITANAGAR, Nov 24: Shantanu Bhattacharyya, a multifaceted personality, who brought his mainstream experience to enrich the world of media in Arunachal Pradesh, has passed into history.
The end came for the versatile man, who was usually referred to as Shantanu Da or simply, Dada by most of the younger members of the media fraternity in Arunachal, in a West Bengal hamlet on Thursday at around 10.30 in the night.
He had not been keeping well for quite a period of time. Eventually, he breathed his last post old-age related ailments.
He was 81 and left behind his wife, one daughter and a son.
Bhattacharyya, who lent his name to most of the prominent newspapers in this frontier state including Echo of Arunachal, in due course, established his own news agency APNEI in early 2000 through which he served the State with his strong and meticulous style of writing.
At that time, people from different walks in the State including members of the media fraternity, used to visit his place seeking advice or suggestions on matters pertaining to several aspects.
The octogenarian, in his extensive period in the media, worked alongside the likes of Nikhil Chakravarty – the icon of Indian Journalism – and several others as he had gone through his heydays in New Delhi with over three-decade-stay there. During this period, Bhattacharyya, who was also a good singer and composer, came across a host of luminaries from the world of music like Amjad Ali Khan (Sarod) and Nikhil Banerjee (Sitar).
Besides being a top-notch writer, he was an acclaimed painter, a superlative photographer, a teacher and an excellent orator.
Interestingly, he had started his professional career in a studio called ‘City Art Studio’, set up by his father in Kolkata (then Calcutta) in the 60's.
The man, who was gifted with so much spreading across different spheres, couldn’t get his special abilities’ worth.
