RONO HILLS, Dec 7: The Department of Social Work, Rajiv Gandhi University organised a workshop themed, ‘Gender Based Violence: A Two-Day Workshop for Counsellors, Practitioners and Student Youth in Arunachal Pradesh’, on December 3-4 last. The workshop contributes to 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence observed from November 25 to December 10. Dr. Kaushalendra Pratap Singh, Head Department of social Work addressed the gathering and Dr. John G. Gangmei welcomed the participants. 
The workshop training was conducted for the counsellors, staffs, and practitioners working on gender violence at Papumpare District of Arunachal Pradesh. The Department of Women and Child Development, Arunachal Pradesh; One Stop Centre (OSC), Papumpare District; The Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society (APWWS), and Kripa Foundation, Lekhi village participated in the workshop. The student youth of the state were also called for an Essay and Poster Competition. The Suicide Risk Reduction among youthand students in Arunachal Pradesh, an ICMR Project Team of AITS, RGU also contributed and participated in the workshop.
Dr. Bornali Das, Senior Psychiatric Social Worker, Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Assam educated the participants on Psychological Impact of Trauma, Abuse and Violence along with its types and symptoms. She informed the impact of violence at home has a maladaptive impact on the brain of a child. 
The Arunachal Pradesh Queer Station (AP Queer Station) also educated the participants on various challenges, constraints of the LGBTQIA+ community in the state. Discrimination on accessibility of basic resources, lack of awareness among the people in the state are few challenges highlighted in the sharing. Dr. Yumah Narah and Ms. Marie presented the AP Queer Station. 
Dr. Chaphiak Lowang, Assistant Professor Department of Social Work as a State Lead Trainer emphasised to inform and provide a hand holding to the participants. She informed on gender-based violence (GBV), its types and forms, understanding multigenerational trauma and its implications on the affected individuals, families and societies at large. The session also guided the participants on various counselling skills while working with affected women by GBV and their spouse. 
The discussion in the workshop recommends that there should be provisions for inclusion of other non-binary genders in accessing welfare services of the government and on governmental organisation.
