Borduria, Aug 2: The Luminous Lummer Dai Literary Award 2024 was conducted at the Borduria Towang Lowangdong Auditorium to celebrate the contributions of Thajam Aboh and Wangsam Zongsam in the field of arts and literature. The event was hosted and managed by Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS), Tirap unit, under the guidance of APLS, Itanagar.
Thajam Aboh and Wangsam Zongsam were awarded the Luminous Lummer Dai Literary Award for their efforts in bringing a new wave of songwriting and poetry that highlights rural lives. Their works subtly capture traditional and cultural scenarios that are rarely seen today.
Minister for Environment & Forest, Wangki Lowang, who attended as the chief guest recalled the late novelist Lummer Dai as a source of inspiration for the young generation.
“Though late Dai could write only in Assamese language but he was also a great contributor to Assamese literature, promoting brotherhood between the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam,” he said. Commending APLS for its literary activities, Lowang emphasised the pivotal role of literary bodies like APLS in promoting harmony and brotherhood among the people of the two neighbouring states. Lowang also commended young writer Wangtum  Humcha Lowang for introducing Nocte Digest in the form of  Digital Library.
Guest of Honor and Borduria-Bogapani MLA, Wanglin Lowangdong, referred to the state government initiatives to promote the culture, tradition, literature, and languages of the state. He called upon academicians, scholars, and social thinkers to support the government’s efforts in promoting the cultural heritage of the Arunachalee people. He also appreciated retired DD(IPR) Denhang Bosai and young writers Wanggo Lowang and Wangtum Humcha Lowang from the Nocte community for their interest in literary activities.
He noted that the government has already taken steps to present awards to young achievers who bring laurels to the state. “The achievers award initiated by the State Government will encourage more young people to explore their hidden talents,” Lowangdong added.
In his welcome speech, Mukul Pathak, General Secretary of APLS Itanagar, highlighted the long journey of APLS's formation and the significance of the Lummer Dai Award.
APLS President and Padma Shri awardee Y.D. Thongchi paid rich tribute to late Lummer Dai and extended hearty felicitations to Luminous Lummer Dai Literary Award winners Thajam Aboh and Wangsam Zongsam. He provided a brief overview of the literary journey of the apex literary body of the State.
A colorful cultural performance by the Khonsa village women's group and students of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Borduria, marked the celebration.
The day’s program concluded with a vote of thanks from APLS Tirap unit General Secretary Wanggo Socia.
