Likabali, Nov 14: Minister of Agriculture and Allied Departments, Gabriel D. Wangsu,conducted a comprehensive review meeting with officers in Likabali, Lower Siang district today and assessed the needs and progress in the agriculture and horticulture sectors.
Minister Wangsu stressed the importance of identifying genuinely motivated farmers having adequate land and resources to make full use of available schemes, emphasizing that these beneficiaries must be capable of executing projects effectively.
Interacting with the officers, Wangsu highlighted the need for proper incentivization to encourage greater participation in farming, especially among young people to address the growing concern of unemployment. “Agriculture and allied departments have a huge responsibility to help tackle unemployment,” he noted and urged officers to think out of box for innovative solutions and assured them of his support. “I’ll take care of your concerns and you take care of our people,” he observed while fervently appealing the officers to give their best for the welfare of the farming communities.
Officials placed concerns over specific challenges facing the agriculture sector in the district, which Wangsu assured to address while underlining the importance of aligning with the national goals under the national mission for agricultural growth and self-reliance.
The minister also visited the local Oil Palm Nursery at Dipa to assess progress and interacted with stakeholders. He stressed on achieving the national mission in sustainable oil palm production by accomplishing the targets set for the state.
The minister visited oil palm garden of a progressive farmer at Dipa and expressed hope that Lower Siang district would witness massive growth in oil palm production in days ahead.
The minister was accompanied by district officers including SP, ADC and senior officers of the district, who engaged in constructive discussions on advancing agriculture and horticulture initiatives.
