ITANAGAR,Dec 12: The Arunachal Frontier Tribal Front (AFTF) has called on the state government to immediately repeal the 80:20 job reservation ratio and implement mandatory prerequisites for Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Permanent Residence Certificates (PRC) in competitive examinations conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) and Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB).
Addressing reporters at the press club on Thursday, AFTF Chairman Tadak Nalo criticized the government for its inaction despite earlier promises to reform the recruitment process. He highlighted that after widespread protests by aspirants and the public against the APPSC job scam, the government assured changes but is yet to deliver.
“The government pledged to make PRC and ST certificates mandatory for competitive examinations, but the promise remains unfulfilled. The file related to this reform has reportedly gone missing from the office of the Chief Secretary,” Nalo stated.
He further pointed out that a committee was formed under the then Education Minister Taba Tedir following a cabinet decision, but its recommendations have not been implemented.
Nalo stressed the need to reform the outdated recruitment policies, including a review of the 80:20 job reservation ratio introduced in the 1980s when the state had fewer educated individuals. “Now, we have a substantial number of educated but  unemployed individuals. Other northeastern states like Mizoram, Nagaland, and Meghalaya have 100% job reservations for indigenous people, and Arunachal should follow suit,” he asserted.
The AFTF also urged the inclusion of tribal languages and dialects in APPSC and APSSB examinations. Nalo argued that prioritizing local languages in recruitment processes would strengthen the representation of the state’s indigenous population and align Arunachal with practices in states like Mizoram, Nagaland, and Manipur.
“Arunachal is a 100% tribal state with an entirely indigenous population. It is vital to recognize and incorporate our tribal languages into the system,” he added.
The AFTF’s demands highlight growing dissatisfaction with the state’s recruitment policies.
