ITANAGAR, Dec 13: In a swift response to a distressing case of alleged sexual abuse, the Women Police Station (WPS) in Itanagar has successfully rescued a 14-year-old minor girl from Assam, who had been working as a domestic help. The girl reportedly fled her employer's home after enduring multiple assaults.
The incident came to light when a relative of the victim filed a complaint with WPS, detailing the abuse she suffered at the hands of her employer, identified as Tapor Mara, a driver residing in Yupia-III village. The victim had been employed by Mara since September this year, shortly after the death of his wife. It is alleged that following this tragedy, Mara began to exploit the young girl.
Thanks to the vigilance of a compassionate citizen who noticed the victim's distressed state, Childline and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) were alerted. The victim was rescued and brought to safety, where she disclosed the abuse during her interaction with CWC officials, stated SP Itanagar, Rohit Rajbir Singh (IPS).
Based on her testimony and the reports from Childline and CWC, a case was registered under WPS Case No. 69/2024, invoking relevant sections of the law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Within just four hours of the report, a police team led by Inspector Nich Rupa, assisted by Constables Techi Mekap and J. Norbu, along with a CRPF unit under the supervision of SDPO Itanagar Kengo Dirchi, apprehended the accused.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities committed to ensuring justice for the victim. Further updates will be provided as the case develops, stated the SP in a release.
