Naharlagun, Dec 21: A peaceful candlelight march was held today in Naharlagun in memory of the three young lives lost at the St. Alphonsa School incident. Organized by the victims’ families, the rally aimed to raise awareness about the tragedy and demand justice for the victims.
The march began at Naharlagun Cinema Hall and concluded at St. Alphonsa School, with participants walking in silence, holding candles to symbolize their grief and solidarity. The solemn procession drew support from concerned citizens and community members who joined the families in their call for accountability and action.
The bereaved families expressed their anguish over the incident, accusing the school authorities of ignoring warnings about leaks in the water tank. They demanded strict action against those responsible, including the building owner, Kipa Rai, and voiced concerns over bail being granted to the accused.
“We are here not just to mourn but to ensure no other family has to go through such a tragedy. The government must take firm steps against such negligence,” said a family member of one of the victims.
The march highlighted the urgent need for safety in schools and called for systemic changes to prevent similar incidents in the future.
