Itanagar, Jan 23: Spices Board organised a Buyer Seller Meet (BSM) at D.K. State Convention Centre, Itanagar on Thursday in order to provide a platform for better commerce and trade aimed towards direct linkages of spice farmers in Arunachal Pradesh as well as other North Eastern states.
Nyato Dukam, Minister, Commerce & Industry, attended the event as the Chief Guest.
B.N. Jha, Director (Marketing) Spices Board in his speech shared the importance of Spices and highlighted about the significance of BSM and how this initiative aimed to foster direct and effective linkages among growers, buyers, and enthusiasts alike. By facilitating dialogue and collaboration, such gatherings catalyze innovation, market expansion, and sustainable growth within the spice sector, he said.
Minister Dukam said that Spices cultivation is still at a very primary stage in Arunachal Pradesh, however he is happy to see that in recent years, cultivation of Spices is growing rapidly and with favourable climatic and soil condition in Arunachal, he encouraged the participants to take full advantage of the programme and also asked Spices Board to continue with the guidance both financially and technically.

Officials from Tea Board, APEDA, NABARD, and Rubber Board were also present at the event.
Apart from importers and exporters, progressive farmers/grower groups from NE region also participated in the event and interacted with the exporters to find out the prospects and requirements of the buyers.
Spices Board (Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India), the flagship organization for the development and worldwide promotion of Indian spices has been spearheading activities for promotion and facilitation of spice trade by strengthening linkages at various levels of the Spice Industry. During 2023-24, India exported 15,39,692 MT of spices and spice products valued at Rs. 36,958.80 crore (4,464.17 million US$). The major contributors in the spices export basket are Chilli, Cumin, Spice oil & Oleoresins, Mint Products, Turmeric, Curry Powder, Cardamom (small) and Pepper.
