Kakoi, Dec 1: In a harrowing incident highlighting the disturbing rise in violence against women, a woman identified as Ganga Biswakarma, also known as Tayum Yana, was brutally murdered in Kakoi on November 24 last. The victim, a mother of three minor children, was allegedly killed by her husband, Susan Tayum.
Following the incident, a team from the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) visited Kimin Police Station on November 30 last to gather updates on the case. The team, led by President Kani Nada Maling, Vice-President Yab Yazor Camdir, and Law Coordinator Advocate Oyam Binggep, interacted with Officer-in-Charge Inspector Tumki Loya. They were assisted by Para-Legal Volunteer (PLV) Obang Dai, who had been actively supporting the victim's family.
The APWWS team proceeded to Kakoi, where they met the grieving family of the deceased. The victim’s mother, visibly distraught, shared her ordeal, recounting how her daughter, a hardworking woman supporting her family, met a tragic and violent end. "We are so poor that we cannot care for her three children," the grieving mother said, tears streaming down her face. "My daughter was killed like a dog, and now her youngest son, only two years old and still breastfeeding, is left without a mother."
The APWWS emphasized the immediate need for care and support for the victim’s three children. The team informed the Child Welfare Committee in Yupia, Papum Pare District, about the children’s situation, advocating for their safety and well-being. The team also assured the family of their commitment to ensuring justice
In a statement, the APWWS strongly condemned the rising violence against women in the state, urging authorities and society to work together to ensure the safety, dignity, and rights of women and children.
Further, the organization lauded the efforts of PLV Obang Dai for facilitating their visit and expressed determination to pursue justice for the late Ganga Biswakarma and her family. “We stand firm in our resolve to ensure the perpetrator is held accountable and does not walk free,” said APWWS President Kani Nada Maling.
