ITANAGAR, Nov 22: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has sharply criticized the BJP-led central government, accusing it of shielding industrialist Gautam Adani amid serious corruption allegations.
Addressing reporters at the press club on Friday, APCC Vice President Meena Toko alleged that the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is complicit in covering up the alleged misdeeds of the Adani Group.
Toko highlighted recent charges filed by the U.S. Department of Justice, which accused Industrialist Gautam Adani and seven others, including his nephew Sagar, of orchestrating a scheme to pay a $265 million (approximately ` 2,200 crore) bribe to Indian officials in exchange for favourable terms in solar power contracts. "The central government is fully aware of this corruption. Adani is in India, and swift action must be taken against him. He should be arrested immediately," Toko said.
The Congress leader further criticized the BJP for its silence on the issue, both in public and in parliament. "Despite repeated demands and debates, the BJP has refused to address the alleged nexus between the party and Adani," she stated.
Additionally, Toko accused the BJP government of misusing social identities to create fake bank accounts and transfer funds illegally. She pointed to incidents in Arunachal Pradesh where customer funds have allegedly been misappropriated without their knowledge.
"All investigative agencies are silent on Adani issues, which raises serious questions about their impartiality," Toko said, demanding a thorough investigation into the allegations against Adani and the purported irregularities.
The APCC has called for transparency and accountability, urging the central government to act decisively against corruption and safeguard public trust, she added.
