ITANAGAR, Nov 23: The Arunachal Democratic Party (ADP) has reiterated its demand for an immediate halt to illegal coal mining activities in the state, particularly in Changlang District. The party has urged the state government to take stringent action to curb the environmental damage and revenue losses caused by rampant illegal mining.
Addressing the media, Sama Bagang, Secretary of the ADP, informed that the party has not only appealed to the state government but has also written to the Ministry of Coal and the President of India, seeking intervention in the matter. Bagang highlighted the severe environmental degradation and the significant revenue loss to the state due to unregulated coal mining in the district.
In response to the ADP's appeals, the state government constituted a committee led by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Changlang to investigate allegations of illegal coal mining. However, the ADP expressed dissatisfaction with the exclusion of its representatives from the committee. Bagang criticized this decision, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in addressing the issue.
Speaking on behalf of the party, ADP General Secretary Kipa Natung issued a stern warning, stating that if the committee fails to disclose the names of individuals and groups involved in illegal mining activities, the party will consider taking independent action. “If needed, we will resort to any measure within democratic means,” Natung asserted.
The ADP also emphasized its commitment to promoting legitimate coal mining practices, which they claim will not only support state and local youth by providing employment opportunities but also significantly boost state revenue. "Our aim is to support the state through lawful methods of coal mining," Natung added.
