Itanagar, Jan 5: The Arunachal Chamber of Commerce & Industries (ACC&I) has written to Union Minister Kiren Rijiju urging his intervention regarding the high air fares on the Itanagar to Delhi route. This is a follow up of its earlier written complaint expressing strong resentment against high fares of Indigo Airlines on Itanagar-Delhi route and handing over a copy of complaint lodged with Union Civil Aviation Minister on November 7 last year.
Indigo Airlines had began operations from Donyi-Polo Airport from Itanagar from 28.11.22 to provide much needed relief to the state’s people, particularly patients going out for treatment, state ministers, GoAP officers going on duty to New Delhi and students studying outside.
While appreciating Indigo for weekly three-day service on Itanagar-Delhi route, President ACCI, Tarh Nachung complained that the fare goes up to Rs 25,000, if ticket is booked within 24 hours, imposing heavy burden on air commuters.
While such high fares amounted to exploiting the needy air commuters, the GoAP has also been incurring huge expenditure for to and fro Itanagar-Delhi air journey of its ministers and officers. Many people of the state stuck up in Delhi had lodged complaints with me about high fares of the airline and non availability of train reservation. This seemingly has defeated the very purpose of air service as Indigo Airlines has monopolized the route at the cost of state's air commuters, he said.
Stating that no step has been taken so far to redress the grievances, ACCI has reiterated its plea for concrete steps in this regard for the benefit of air commuters of NE India.
