TEZU, Dec 7: The 11th edition of Chief Minister’s Sub-Veteran & Veteran State Badminton Championship came to a grand conclusion in Tezu on Friday, highlighting remarkable performances by players from across Arunachal.
The championship, held in various categories, brought together a total of 303 seasoned athletes and new talents, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for badminton in the state. 
Kalom Pait and Taanu Tamin from Upper Subansiri emerged victorious in the Men’s Doubles (55+) category, followed by Laa Ribe and N L Togu of Kamle and Keyi Panyor in second place. Arup Buragohain and Dobin Lendo of Keyi Panyor and Lepa Rada shared the third position with Doli Lollen and Kento Ngomdir from West Siang.
In the Men’s Singles (55+), Laa Ribe from Kamle took the top spot, while Kalom Pait from Upper Subansiri finished second. The third position was jointly secured by Taanu Tamin of Upper Subansiri and N L Togu of Keyi Panyor. 
Jarsa Gamlin and Karmo Riram of West Siang clinched the Men’s Doubles (50+) title, with Nich Bapu and Robinson Gogoi of Keyi Panyor taking the runner-up position. Kamnga Ronya and Taanu Tamin from Upper Subansiri shared the third position with Arup Buragohain and Nl Togu of Keyi Panyor.
In the Men’s Singles (50+), Laa Ribe from Kamle emerged as the winner, while Somar Potom from West Siang claimed the second spot. Jarsa Gamlin and Karmo Riram, also from West Siang, shared the third position. 
The Men’s Doubles (45+) category saw Monya Riba and Tojo Bam from Lepa Rada finishing first, followed by Nawang Thutan and Sonam Tsering from Tawang in second place. Jarsa Gamlin and Karmo Riram of West Siang shared the third position with Apomo Lingi and Saji Baby from Lower Dibang Valley.
In the Women’s Singles (40+), Yane Kamsar of Upper Subansiri emerged as the champion, while Boni Yupu from the same district secured the second position. Tarak Kayum and Taw Yania from Kurung Kumey finished third. 
The Mixed Doubles (35+) title went to Nich Taku and Boni Yupu of Papum Pare and Upper Subansiri. Tai Kagung and Irani Sonowal from Keyi Panyor finished second, while Kenjom Ete and Sushma Linggi from West Siang shared the third position with Dekio Gumja and Yane Kamsar from Upper Subansiri.
Dekio Gumja from Upper Subansiri claimed victory in the Men’s Singles (35+) category, followed by Barailum Chaitom from Anjaw in second place. Nich Taku of Papum Pare and Gungte Yangfo of East Kameng secured the third spot. 
The championship concluded with enthusiastic responses from players and spectators, underscoring its significance in promoting sports culture and uniting players from different regions. Organizers commended the high level of competition and expressed optimism for an even bigger turnout in the next edition.
Local MLA Mohesh Chai underscored the significance of nurturing sportsmanship and encouraged the youth to embrace sports as a means to stay fit.
"The championship serves not only as a platform for veterans to exhibit their talent but also inspires younger generations to pursue sports with dedication," Chai said, thanking all the participants for being a part of the tournament in his hometown.
Lohit SP Thutan Jamba, Lohit District Badminton Association (LDBA) secretary Bablalum Chiba, and others also addressed the gathering.
The event, organized by the LDBA with support from the Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) delivered on its promise of showcasing high-quality badminton.
Held under the theme “No to Drugs, Yes to Badminton,” the tournament was overseen by national umpire Tania Yasap, with Pema Laden serving as the referee and deputy referee, respectively.
