ITANAGAR, Dec 26: The All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) has welcomed the Arunachal Pradesh government’s decision to constitute a Fact-Finding Committee and order for re-verification of land compensation related to the Lada–Sarli Frontier Highway project, terming it a bold and decisive step towards transparency, justice, and public accountability.
Speaking to the media, ANYA president Jamru Ruja expressed gratitude to Chief Minister and the state government for acknowledging the long-pending grievances of families affected by the project. He said the re-verification order reflects the government’s intent to address alleged irregularities in compensation payments and to restore public trust in the system.
However, Ruja demanded that ANYA be included in the Fact-Finding Committee constituted by the government to ensure fairness, credibility, and community participation in the probe.
Raising serious concerns, ANYA pointed out that only the District Land Settlement & Records Officer (DLSRO) has been arrested so far, while other officials, brokers, and individuals allegedly involved in the compensation scam have not faced any action. The association urged the government to take stringent and immediate action against all officials and beneficiaries involved irrespective of their position.
ANYA further called for early recovery of misused compensation amounts from individuals who wrongfully claimed excess payments through fraudulent means, including officials and middlemen. It demanded that the details of recovered amounts be placed in the public domain to uphold transparency and accountability.
Emphasising relief for genuine landowners, the association sought swift disbursement of compensation to rightful beneficiaries and recommended that the list of beneficiaries along with disbursed amounts be made public to maintain transparency and public confidence.
The association also urged the government to complete the re-verification process strictly within the stipulated timeframe and to hand over the project to the executing agency without delay for the timely commencement of work on the strategic frontier highway.
Clarifying its stand on agitation, Ruja said that the government has sought 45 days to complete the Fact Finding Committee’s work, following which ANYA has decided to call off its proposed bandh scheduled for December 29. However, he warned that if the government fails to take concrete action within the promised 45 days, ANYA will resume its democratic movement to safeguard the rights of the affected people.
