ITANAGAR, Nov 23: The All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) East Kameng Unit on Saturday suspended its week-long dharna but issued a stern warning to the state government, declaring that the association is prepared to launch a more “extreme democratic movement” if immediate steps are not taken to address the alleged corruption in the Lada–Sarli land compensation scam.
Addressing reporters, ANYA–EK President Ramesh Taku expressed deep frustration, stating that despite a clear message sent through their week-long foot march from Seppa to Itanagar, followed by another week of peaceful dharna, the government has remained “blind and deaf” to their demands. He accused the authorities of deliberately avoiding action and said such silence “clearly indicates that the government is not in the mood to take action against corruption.”
Taku announced that the unit will soon meet with its central leadership to finalise a more aggressive and intensified form of protest, asserting that they will not back down until justice is delivered and their demands are fulfilled. He warned that the agitation would continue in phases and escalate further if the government continues to ignore the voice of the public.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu, responding to the media , reiterated that his government has already initiated all necessary actions on the Lada–Sarli case. He said that the Special Investigation Team has been directed to conduct a detailed inquiry into the alleged irregularities and that every step must follow legal procedure. “First investigation, then case registration, and then arrest. We cannot simply go and arrest someone or recover money without following due legal process,” the Chief Minister clarified. He assured that his government is transparent and committed to ensuring accountability. “Once the investigation is complete, no one involved will be spared,” he added.
The Lada–Sarli Frontier Highway land compensation scam has emerged as one of the most controversial issues in recent months. Earlier this month, a government-appointed Fact-Finding Committee (FFC) uncovered major discrepancies in land verification and compensation assessments. The interim report revealed payments made for non-existent assets, inflated valuations, and procedural violations. Following the findings, four district officials from East Kameng—spanning the Forest, Agriculture, Horticulture, and Land Revenue departments—were suspended, while the state has also recommended action against the Deputy Commissioner who chaired the land verification process.
