ITANAGAR, Dec 19: The Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisation (APIYO), All Naharlagun Youth Organization (ANYO) and Indigenous Youth Force of Arunachal (IYFA) on Friday openly expressed dissatisfaction following its meeting with Home Minister Mama Natung, stating that the discussion failed to meet the expectations of indigenous youth on the pressing issue of illegal immigration.
Speaking after the meeting held at the Civil Secretariat in Itanagar, the APIYO President, Taro Sonam said the organisation was “not satisfied with this meeting,” alleging that the assurances given were vague and lacked a clear timeline or concrete action plan. APIYO maintained that illegal immigration continues to pose a serious threat to the demographic balance, cultural identity, and security of Arunachal Pradesh, and demanded immediate, visible action on the ground.
Though the organizations express gratitude to the government for banning the weekly market, organizations pressed for strict enforcement of Inner Line Permit (ILP) norms, verification drives against illegal Bangladeshi, and decisive action against those facilitating illegal construction of mosques in the state. They also warned that continued inaction could compel indigenous youth bodies to intensify democratic protests.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Mama Natung, briefing the media, said the government has taken serious note of the concerns raised and assured that action would be taken against illegal immigrants as per law. He termed the interaction “fruitful” and reiterated the state government’s commitment to maintaining law and order while safeguarding the rights and interests of indigenous communities.
The meeting was attended by representatives of APIYO, Indigenous Youth Force Arunachal (IYFA) and All Naharlagun Youth Organisation (ANYO), along with senior government officials including the Principal Secretary (Home), the Deputy Commissioner, and the Superintendent of Police of the Itanagar Capital Region.
