Ziro Valley, Nov 9: The members of Ziro Bird Walk marked the nationwide celebration of Young Birders’ Month on Sunday with the students of Woodland School, Ziro, a premier educational institution of the town. More than 20 young students from various classes, along with Khoda Yakang Millo, District Tourism Officer, participated in a day-long event.
The bird walk was conducted along the scenic stretches of Pare Ami, Byonii and Manipolyang, where participants identified and recorded over 20 bird species. The walk was flagged off by Ram Biswakarma, Principal of Woodland School.
The Ziro Bird Walk is a community driven initiative that encourages participation from people of all ages. Its primary objective is to raise awareness among the public about the importance of birds and wildlife conservation discouraging hunting and poaching practices in the district.
As reported by Koj Mama, Honorary Wildlife Warden for Lower Subansiri District, the idea of involving school students in the Ziro Bird Walk was initially proposed by Vivek H.P., former Deputy Commissioner of Ziro,  who advocated for the inclusion of students from both government and private schools in the monthly walks. He emphasised that young learners have a natural curiosity and enthusiasm to understand and protect nature and urged the protection of winter migratory birds visiting Ziro where more than 40 migratory waterbird species have been recorded during past bird walks.
As part of the Young Birder’s Month celebration, Bamin Chada, a member of the Arunachal Pradesh Birding Club, delivered a Power Point Presentation on the Importance of Birds, followed by a “Web of Life” demonstration by Millo Tako, another member of the club.
The event concluded with a strong message of nurturing young minds towards bird conservation and environmental stewardship.
