ITANAGAR, Nov 26: The Arunachal Pradesh Trade Union Federation (APTUF) has declared a state-wide phase-wise agitation from 26 November to 8 December, alleging that the state government has failed to respond to long-pending demands concerning Workcharged, contingency and casual workers.
Speaking to the media, General Secretary APTUF Kenkar Yomcha informed that despite repeated appeals, the authorities have shown no willingness to address issues affecting thousands of workers across departments.
APTUF’s charter of demands includes enhancing the grade pay of Workcharged employees—particularly WC computer operators—from ₹1,900 to ₹2,400; creating Workcharged posts in all engineering and departmental setups by maintaining a 50 percent ratio; regularising contingency and casual workers who have completed 15 years or more of service; recognising a one-day break as a full day off without wage deduction; and releasing a compensation amount of ₹3 lakh for beneficiaries or dependent kin of retired workers who have reached 60 years of age.
According to the federation’s schedule, the agitation will begin with peaceful dharnas across the state on 26 November. Workers within the Capital Complex will assemble at the Tennis Court area of IG Park, while district units will organise similar demonstrations at the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s offices or in other designated locations.
This will be followed by a statewide tools-and-pen-down strike on 2 December, and a mass rally and procession across Arunachal Pradesh on 8 December, beginning at 10 AM.
The APTUF Chairman Changna Tajo and Secretary General Kenkar Yomcha, urged all workers under the federation to actively participate in the agitation. APTUF stated that the movement aims to safeguard the rights and welfare of the state’s working-class community and warned that continued government inaction has left them with no choice but to intensify their struggle.
