Naharlagun, Nov 4: Secretary (Health & Family Welfare) Vivek HP underscored the importance of mandatory registration of all ultrasound (USG) machines under PC& PNDT Act. He stressed that every ultrasound facility must be duly registered with competent authority to ensure transparency accountability and strict compliance with the provision of the Act.
The Secretary was speaking at a one-day state level sensitisation-cum-capacity building workshop on PC &PNDT for medical officer-cum-District Appropriate Authority (PC&PNDT) and DEO/District Coordinator (CEA) and other stakeholders organised by the state Health Society & Directorate of Family Welfare.
Secretary (H&FW) further added that unregistered or unreported use of USG equipment not only violates the law but also contributes to concerning practice of gender biased detection. He also urged all the clinical establishments and diagnostic centers to ensure their staff members are adequately trained.
The program was aimed at training the officer and official of the Districts on effectively implementing the Pre-Conception and Diagnostic Techniques (prohibition of sex selection) Act 1994 in the state.
DDFW M. Purkayastha gave an overview of the PC&PNDT and its status, technical session were given by Dr. S Wangju, HoD Radiology &Image, TRIHMS and Dr BT Tayeng, senior Obs & Gynae.
In the second half session on Birth Registration on Aadhar Enrolment (BRBAE) was addressed wherein enrolment of newborn using Birth Registration number through online civil registration system was discussed.
Dr Nani Rika, DFW cum State Appropriate Authority (PC&PNDT) stressed on proper record keeping in all hospitals and clinics and strictly following the Act adding ‘failure may invite strict action.’
The training was attended by Mission Director Marge Sora and DHS Director Marbom Basar, DDFW Moyang Tali.
