NAMSAI, Oct 22: In a major counter-insurgency operation, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, in coordination with state police and CRPF, launched a joint offensive on the night of October 21–22 in the MS-6 area of Namsai district, Arunachal Pradesh.
During the late-night operation, security forces made contact with suspected ULFA (Independent) militants, resulting in a brief but intense exchange of fire.
At first light, the search teams recovered the body of one slain ULFA (I) cadre, identified as SS Sergeant Major Iwon Axom, along with a rifle, one RPG round, and three rucksacks containing assorted materials.
According to official sources, the operation is still ongoing, with additional columns of the Army, Assam Rifles, Police, and CRPF deployed to sanitize the area and prevent further movement of insurgents.
The deceased militant is suspected to have been involved in recent violent incidents, including the attack on the Kakopathar Army Camp. Security forces remain on high alert as coordinated operations continue to track down remaining elements of the ULFA (I) group active along the Arunachal-Assam border region.
