ITANAGAR, Oct 24: A rally was organised today by the Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisations (APIYO) in collaboration with the All Capital Complex Youth Welfare Association (ACCYWA) and the All Naharlagun Youth Welfare Association (ANYWA). The rally began from Akash Deep and culminated at the Tennis Court, Itanagar, drawing large participation from indigenous youths and community members under the powerful motto — “Bachao Bachao Arunachal Ko Bachao, Bachao Bachao Indigenous Ko Bachao.”
The rally, held peacefully but highlighted growing concerns over the protection of indigenous identity and land within the Twin Capital Complex. Protesters voiced demands for the cancellation of alleged illegal constructions of Jama Masjid and Madrasa, the removal of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from Itanagar and Naharlagun, and strict recognition of only two legally established Jama Masjids in the capital region. They also urged the government to immediately ban weekly markets operating within and around the Twin Capital area, including Doimukh and Hollongi, citing threats to local livelihood and security.
Addressing the gathering, Taro Sonam Liyak, President of APIYO, said the rally represents the collective voice of indigenous youths who are deeply concerned about the demographic and cultural changes taking place in their homeland. “We are not against any religion or community, but illegal activities and constructions cannot be tolerated in our land. This rally is a reminder that Arunachal belongs to its indigenous people, and it’s our duty to protect it,” Liyak asserted.
The rally concluded with the submission of a memorandum to the concerned authorities, warning that stronger democratic movements would follow if their concerns are not addressed promptly.
