Itanagar, Oct 16: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein inaugurated the Traditional Mishmi Hut and the Hostel-cum-Guest House at the Mishmi Cultural Heritage Centre (MCHC), Jollang, Itanagar, in the presence of community leaders, members of the Mishmi Welfare Society (MWS), and representatives from various tribal organisations.
Congratulating the Mishmi Welfare Society for its efforts in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Mishmi community, the Deputy Chief Minister lauded the establishment of the Centre as a meaningful step towards cultural preservation and social welfare. He said the facility will serve as both a cultural hub and a support space for students, patients, and visitors from remote parts of the State.
“The Mishmi Cultural Heritage Centre is a landmark initiative that reflects the community’s commitment to preserving its traditions while serving society,” Mein said.
He expressed gratitude to the local community for donating land to the Mishmi Welfare Society, calling it a generous contribution that made the establishment of such vital cultural and welfare infrastructure possible. He noted that the newly inaugurated hostel would greatly benefit students and patients visiting Itanagar for education or medical treatment, especially those with limited financial means.
Addressing the youth, the Deputy Chief Minister urged them to stay disciplined, pursue education and competitive examinations, and contribute actively to the State’s progress rather than misusing gatherings or opportunities. He encouraged them to take part in economic activities under the Krishi Yojana and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Yojana, and to work towards self-reliance instead of relying solely on government employment.
Highlighting the State’s vision for economic growth, Mein said that, just as hydropower has driven development in other states, Arunachal Pradesh too will achieve progress through tourism and hydropower. He stated that the Government is prioritising infrastructure development to enhance connectivity and promote tourism across the State, including the development of the Eastern Tourism Circuit, which will showcase the region’s unique cultural and natural heritage. Such initiatives, he noted, will boost local economies and generate employment opportunities for taxi operators, hoteliers, homestay owners, artisans, and entrepreneurs across the region.
Concluding his address, Mein said that the Mishmi Cultural Heritage Centre will stand as a beacon of cultural pride, learning, and community service, and commended the Mishmi Welfare Society for its noble efforts. He reaffirmed the State Government’s full support for preserving and promoting the invaluable indigenous heritage of Arunachal Pradesh.
The event was attended by Minister of Cultural Affairs Dasanglu Pul, Advisor (Tourism) Mopi Mihu, members of the Mishmi Welfare Society, and other distinguished guests.
