ITANAGAR, Nov 9: The four-day Li-Ning 12th Chief Minister Veteran and Sub-Veteran State Badminton Championship 2025 concluded at Rupa in West Kameng district, with Kamle district emerging as one of the standout performers, bagging multiple titles across men’s and women’s categories.
Organised by the West Kameng District Badminton Association (WKDBA) under the aegis of the Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA), the championship was held from November 5 to 9 and witnessed enthusiastic participation from players representing nearly all districts, along with departmental teams such as the Arunachal Pradesh Police Sports Control Board (APPSCB).
The event was overseen by Tania Yasap, who served as the tournament referee.
In the Men’s Singles 55+ category, Laa Ribe of Kamle clinched the top honour, followed by K Pait, also from Kamle. Tarh Loram (Papum Pare) and Taanu Tamin (Upper Subansiri) shared the third position.
The Men’s Doubles 50+ title went to the Capital duo Karmo Riram and Tanu Tasing, while K Ronya and Taanu Tamin (Upper Subansiri) settled for second. The pairs of T Muri–Techi Khilli (Capital) and Sang Dorjee–Tajik Yangfo (West Kameng) jointly secured third place.
In the Men’s Singles 50+, Tanu Tasing (Capital) emerged champion, with Somar Potom (West Siang) finishing runner-up. The third positions were shared by Laa Ribe (Kamle) and Karmo Riram (Capital).
West Siang dominated the Men’s Doubles 45+ event, where Monya Riba and Tojo Bam clinched gold, followed by Sange Tsering and Somar Potom, also from West Siang. The pairs of Bimmar Lollen–Lomge Kamchi (West Siang) and Sonam Tsering–Tanu Tasing (Capital) finished third.
In the Men’s Singles 45+, Monya Riba (West Siang) took the title, ahead of Bamep Khamblai (Anjaw). Tai Mama (Kra-Daadi/Kurung Kumey) and Tadar Joy (Papum Pare) shared third.
Among women, Boni Yupu and Pema Ladon (Kamle) triumphed in the Women’s Doubles 40+, while Tarak Kayum and Taw Yania (Kurung Kumey) secured silver. The duo A Uli–M Mara (Upper Subansiri) and Taba Yapi–Yami Lazi (Papum Pare) were placed joint third.
In the Women’s Singles 40+, Yane Kamsar (Kamle) won gold, defeating Boni Yupu (Kamle). Taw Yania (Kurung Kumey) and Mini Dususow Riba (West Kameng) shared bronze.
The Men’s Singles 40+ crown went to Open Melo (Lower Dibang Valley), followed by Tamo Tagia (APPSCB), with Michi Buker (Lower Subansiri) and Tai Mama (Kurung Kumey) finishing joint third.
In the Mixed Doubles 35+, Chemso Pol and Irani Sonowal (Anjaw) emerged champions, edging out Tai Mama and Tai Meme (Kurung Kumey). Barailum Chaitom–Jajim Ama (Anjaw) and Licha Tabia–Taw Yania (Kurung Kumey) claimed third positions.
The Women’s Doubles 35+ event was dominated by Kamle district again, with Boni Yupu and Yane Kamsar winning gold. Dorjee Pema Thongdok and Monomi Boro (West Kameng) finished second, while Apali Mega–Irani Sonowal (Anjaw) and Bippi Karbak–Propha Namchoom (Leparada) finished third.
In the Men’s Doubles 35+, Gungte Yangfo and Toko Raja (Capital) won the title, followed by Ambra Mena and Open Melo (Lower Dibang Valley). G D Namsa–Tadu Maying (APPSCB) and Ram Cheda–Yungte Sangyu (East Kameng) bagged bronze.
The Women’s Singles 35+ category saw Yane Kamsar (Kamle) winning her second gold of the tournament, ahead of Apali Mega (Anjaw). Tai Meme (Kurung Kumey) and Propha Namchoom (Leparada) shared third.
In the Men’s Singles 35+, Dekio Gumja (APPSCB) took top honours, followed by Barailum Chaitom (Anjaw), with Tarh Tana (Capital) and Tadu Maying (APPSCB) finishing joint third
Attending the closing ceremony as chief guest, local MLA Tseten Chombay Kee lauded the ASBA and the WKDBA for successfully hosting the championship at Rupa.
He commended the veteran shuttlers for their unwavering passion for the game, stating that their participation serves as an inspiration for the younger generation to embrace sports as a lifelong pursuit.
“Sports is not merely about competition—it’s about discipline, unity, and perseverance. The enthusiasm shown by our veteran players reflects the true spirit of Arunachal,” Chombay said, while assuring continued support from the state government for the development of sports infrastructure and promotion of badminton across all districts.
West Kameng ZPC Karma Dorjee Thongdok also addressed the gathering.
The championship served as a spirited display of athletic camaraderie and healthy competition, with seasoned players continuing to promote fitness and sportsmanship among veteran shuttlers of Arunachal Pradesh.
