Ziro, Oct 19: The Ziro Honour Run 2025, an initiative of the Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavana in collaboration with the District Administration, Lower Subansiri, was held at Ziro today. The event was not just a race but a heartfelt tribute to the war heroes of the 1962 Indo-China War who laid down their lives for the nation.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.), graced the finale of the ‘Ziro Honour Run’ as Chief Guest at Ziro, Lower Subansiri District on Sunday. He presented the medals and cheques to the winners of the 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km runs. In the 21 km competition for Men (Under 30), Tekeshwar Kurmi was the winner, while in Men (50 Yrs and above), Samir Kolye was the winner. In Women (Under 30), Makakmayum won the winner’s medal. Amongst the Armed Forces, Rifleman Dalvir of 16 Punjab was the winner. In the 10 Km competition for Men (30-35 Yrs), Tailyan Hari received the winner’s medal, while in Women (30-35 Yrs), Renu Loyi was the winner. Amongst the Armed Forces, Agniveer Tehender of 13 Raj Rif received the honour. In the 5km (Children), Master Tapuk Weshi won the winner’s medal.
The Governor congratulated all participants and winners of the maiden ‘Ziro Honour Run’, applauding runners from across India, local enthusiasts from Arunachal Pradesh, and personnel from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, ITBP, and NCC. He said that the event symbolized unity, endurance, and patriotic spirit.
Paying tribute to the heroes of the 1962 Indo-China War, Parnaik recalled the heroics of Rifleman Neelam Tebi, who made the supreme sacrifice during the War. In his memory, a Memorial in Keyi Panyor District stands as a symbol of courage and national pride.
Parnaik commended the Indian Army, 56 Infantry Division, Lower Subansiri District Administration and Police, and people of Ziro for the successful conduct of the maiden event.
Encouraging Arunachal’s youth to dream beyond boundaries, the Governor said that India will host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and aspire for the 2036 Olympics. He urged the young athletes to aim for global excellence and become torchbearers of the Tricolour.
Reminding the people of the essence of ‘Fit India Mission’, the Governor said that fitness is a lifelong duty and strength as a national character, while urging all citizens to build not only champions in sport, but champions in life.
Calling upon the youth and society at large, the Governor urged for collective resolve against social evils such as alcoholism and drug abuse, advocating for discipline, education, and healthy living. He emphasized that sports are vital for nation-building, teaching resilience, humility, and courage, the values essential both on and off the field.
The Governor interacted with the Shauya Motorcycle Rally Team. He expressed deep appreciation for the Indian Army, the security forces, and the civilian participants for their unwavering service and for initiatives like the Shaurya Motorcycle Rally that strengthen civil–military harmony.
Parnaik also interacted with representatives of local communities, cultural troupes, and Ziro Honour Run winners on the occasion.
More than 800 participants participated in the Run. 165 runners participated in the 21 Km Run, while 223 runners participated in the 10 Km Run. 274 participants, including school students, elders, and sports enthusiasts, participated in the 5Km Run. 91 female runners also participated in the Indian Army initiative.
Leading from the front, GOC 56 Infantry Division, Major General Vivek Bakshi, and Commander, 22 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Gaurav Shrivastava, with their ladies, Mona Bakshi and Rachna Srivastava, along with Assam Rifles and ITBP, participated in the ‘Ziro Honour Run’ on the occasion.
The State Bank of India (SBI) and Pramerica partnered with the Indian Army as the official sponsors of the event, underscoring their continued commitment to national pride, community engagement, and social responsibility.
The Ziro Honour Run not only celebrated the valour and sacrifice of India’s soldiers but also fostered civil–military harmony, patriotism, and tourism promotion in the scenic Ziro Valley. The event was met with overwhelming public support and is expected to become an annual feature in the region’s calendar of patriotic and community events.
