Komkar, Oct 31: A consultative meeting was organised in Komkar village, Upper Siang district, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang, to deliberate on the benefits and implications of the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP).
The meeting witnessed active participation from the Komkar community and key district officials. Opening the discussion, Jerang traced the project’s background, beginning with its inception as a Brahmaputra Flood Control Community(BFCC) project at Rottung, where strong public feedback was recorded during the hearing; and the subsequent Lower Siang Dam proposal at Ponging, where the hearing could not be conducted.
Highlighting the importance of the SUMP, the DC underlined the project’s potential to bring improved infrastructure, employment generation, and long-term socio-economic development to the region. He also emphasised the administration’s commitment to ensuring that local voices are heard and community concerns are addressed through a transparent consultative process.
The meeting served as an open platform for public participation, allowing community members to share their views, expectations, and apprehensions. A technical question-and-answer session followed, enabling participants to seek clarifications on various project-related aspects.
Senior officials from multiple departments attended the session, including the Superintendent of Police (SP), District Medical Officer (DMO), Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), District Education Officer (DDSE), among others.
The consultative session concluded with a shared understanding of the project’s background, challenges and potential benefits, reflecting the district administration’s commitment to inclusive and informed decision-making in the interest of sustainable regional development.
