MENGIO, Oct 8: Bringing healthcare to the doorsteps of one of Arunachal Pradesh’s most remote regions, a Free Eye Screening Camp was organised today at Mengio General Ground. The camp was jointly conducted by Karuna Trust, led by the State Community Mobilisation Organiser, and the Indigenous Faiths and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP), spearheaded by  Tadar Chachung, Assistant Secretary, IFCSAP (Arunachal West), and  Tarh Tuki, Camp Organiser.
The programme was graced by  Tai Tagak, veteran BJP leader and former Advisor to the Chief Minister, as Chief Guest.  
Speaking at the event,  Tai Tagak applauded the organisers for their commitment to rural healthcare and their efforts to reach the unreached. He highlighted the critical importance of eye care in overall wellbeing, urging people to adopt preventive measures in the face of rising risks linked to chemical exposure, excessive screen time, and changing lifestyles. He particularly stressed the need for careful monitoring of children’s screen habits to prevent long-term vision problems.
The initiative drew heartfelt appreciation from the people of Mengio, many of whom received eye screening services for the first time. Residents hailed the camp not just for its immediate medical benefits but also for spreading much-needed awareness on eye safety and healthcare.
Later in the day,  Tagak visited the Mengio Administrative Circle Office and Government Secondary School, where community leaders briefed him on urgent local issues. They appealed for the immediate provision of Airtel network connectivity to improve communication in the remote area and sought government attention to the region’s deteriorating road infrastructure.
Among others,Takam Akin, President of the Arunachal Pradesh Rollball Association, attended as Guest of Honour, while  Tadar Akap, Vice Chairman, APMC ICR,  Nabam Ruja, Vibhag Karyavah Subansiri Vibhag,  Sukumaran K, and Dr. Jacob Saro, Medical Officer, Mengio, were present as Special Guests.
The camp recorded an overwhelming response with 103 patients screened and free spectacles distributed, marking a significant step towards community eye health in the underserved circle.
